Coroners (always famous for crossing roads very carefully 👀🚗) investigate sudden or unexplained deaths.
The office of coroner originated in the 11th Century (1066 and all that).
Deaths can be reported to the coroner including if the deceased:
Hasn’t been treated or seen by a doctor in the last 2 weeks ⚕️
Died during or after an operation 👨⚕️
Dies in prison or police custody 🚓
Dies suddenly, accidentally, suspiciously or violently 🗡️
To become a coroner, you need 5 years experience as a qualified solicitor or barrister 👨⚖️
The current chief coroner is the splendidly titled “His Honour Judge Edward Thomas Teague QC”. (Photo hattip: Coroner’s Society)
