Coroners (always famous for crossing roads very carefully ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿš—) investigate sudden or unexplained deaths.

The office of coroner originated in the 11th Century (1066 and all that).

Deaths can be reported to the coroner including if the deceased:

Died during or after an operation ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ
Dies in prison or police custody ๐Ÿš“
Dies suddenly, accidentally, suspiciously or violently ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ

To become a coroner, you need 5 years experience as a qualified solicitor or barrister ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš–๏ธ

The current chief coroner is the splendidly titled โ€œHis Honour Judge Edward Thomas Teague QCโ€. (Photo hattip: Coronerโ€™s Society)
